Intensive Rearing of Poultry and Pigs

This BREF addresses installations for the intensive rearing of poultry and pigs. Poultry is identified for the purpose of this BREF as chicken laying hens and broilers, turkeys, ducks or guinea fowls. The following relevant farm activities are described, although it is acknowledged that not all of the activities will be found on every farm:

• farm management (including maintenance and cleaning of equipment)
• feeding strategy (and feed preparation)
• rearing of animals
• collection and storage of manure
• on-site treatment of manure
• landspreading of manure
• waste water treatment.

Due to the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data, personal contact details of Technical Working Group members have been removed from this website.
