The review of the BAT reference document for the Surface Treatment of Metals and Plastics (STM BREF) has started with the reactivation of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on 28 June 2021. By 24 September, 122 members representing Member States, industry, environmental NGOs, and services of the European Commission have joined the TWG.

The Final Meeting for the drawing up of the BREF for the Waste Gas Management and Treatment Systems in the Chemical sector (WGC) took place as seven web-based sessions between 15 June and 2 July 2021. In these sessions, about ninety experts representing EU Member States, industry, environmental NGOs and services of the Commission agreed on new EU environmental norms for the chemical industry.

The first draft of the revised BREF for the Slaughterhouses and Animal By-Products Industry (SA) has been issued on 29/06/2021. Deadline to receive comments: 15 October 2021.

The Final Meeting for the review of the BREF for the Textiles industry (TXT) took place as seven web-based sessions between 25 May 2021 and 11 June 2021. In these sessions, fifty experts representing EU Member States, industry, environmental NGOs and services of the Commission agreed on new mandatory environmental standards for the Textiles industry sector.

The Kick-off Meeting for the review of the BREF for the Ceramics Manufacturing Industry took place as a series of six web-based sessions between 10 and 25 February 2021.

The Final Meeting for the review of the BREF for Ferrous Metals Processing (FMP) has been successfully completed after nine web-based sessions that took place between November 2020 and February 2021. In these sessions, ninety experts representing EU Member States, industry, environmental NGOs and services of the Commission agreed on new mandatory environmental standards for the Ferrous Metals Processing Industry.

The fifteenth meeting of the IED Article 13 forum took place on 25 January 2021. The forum gave a positive opinion on the work programme of the European IPPC Bureau for 2021 and 2022.

The revised BREF for the Surface treatment using organic solvents including preservation of wood and wood products with chemicals (STS) has been issued on 11/12/2020.

09 December 2020:The Commission implementing decision establishing the BAT conclusions for surface treatment using organic solvents including preservation of wood and wood products with chemicals has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
