The Kick-off Meeting for the drawing up of the Uniform Conditions for Operating Rules for Livestock (pig and poultry) rearing (UCOL) took place as a hybrid meeting from 25 – 27 February 2025. Over 140 experts – 60 in person and 80 online – participated in the meeting, representing EU Member States and Norway, livestock associations, an environmental NGO, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the European Environment Agency (EEA) and services of the Commission.
The frontloading of information for the Reference Document on Best Available Techniques for landfills (LAN BREF) has started. The LAN Technical Working Group is invited to provide initial information through the LAN BREF frontloading survey by 16 April 2025.
The first draft of the revised BREF for the Surface Treatment of Metals and Plastics (STM BREF) is available on the EU-BRITE website. The deadline to provide comments is 9 May 2025.

The Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/2974 establishing the BAT conclusions for the smitheries and foundries industry has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 6 December 2024. The revised Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document for the Smitheries and Foundries Industry (SF BREF) has also been published.

The drawing up of the Uniform Conditions for Operating Rules for Livestock (pig and poultry rearing) (UCOL) has started. Updated information on the activities of the dedicated working group will be available on the Register of Commission Expert Groups and Other Similar Entities.
The drawing up of the BAT reference document (BREF) for landfills, henceforth referred to as the ‘LAN BREF’ has started with the activation of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on 22 November 2024.
